I live in New Jersey south of New York City. The antenna seemed to be picking up HDTV channels for WCBS, WNBC, WWOR, and some others, but not WABC, WPIX, WNET, or WNJB. Why not? I did some research, and found that the first group of stations broadcast on UHF, and the second group on VHF. Apparently when the USA shifted over to HDTV, some formerly VHF stations shifted up to UHF channels. For example, WCBS used to broadcast on VHF channel 2, but now broadcasts on UHF channel 33, even though its virtual channels are 2-1 and 2-2.
(Get it? It"s complicated. But there"s a website, www.antennapoint.com, that can help you figure out whether your stations are now broadcasting on UHF or VHF. It will also help you figure out which way to point your antenna from where you live. Very handy.)
Armed with this knowledge, I looked at the specifications for this antenna (model HW-560AN) and found out that it"s only designed to cover a frequency range of 470 to 862 MHz. In other words, it"s ONLY A UHF ANTENNA.
This may work for you, but it doesn"t work for me. I have to find another antenna. If you"re antenna shopping, be sure that you know what frequencies you need to get, and buy an antenna specifically for that.
